Victorian School Days

Recently, class four was transformed into a Victorian classroom for the morning. The children were collected from the playground by the very stern head teacher, who then gave them all a cleanliness check before marching them into the classroom! As well as writing on slates and chanting times tables, the children were educated on the glorious British Empire, drilled in the capital cities of the United Kingdom and had to read some helpful proverbs from the Bible. Although some did well, one child’s efforts earned her the dunce cap, another experienced the back straightener and a third was ‘caned’! Overall it was a wonderful experience and the children loved experiencing Victorian life.DSC_5254DSC_5275DSC_5262

After reflecting on the experience, the children wrote some fantastic diary entries imagining that they were a Victorian school child. Watch this space for some writing examples very soon!
