CLASS NEWS:

Visit to the ss Great Britain.

In history, we have been learning all about the inspirational British engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. We visited the ssGreat Britain, one of his incredible inventions, to learn more and also enjoyed seeing the spectacular Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Week of Inspirational Maths

We have started off the school year by taking part in the Week of Inspirational Maths, a global event organised by Stamford Professor Jo Boaler through her organisation Youcubed (https://www.youcubed.org/). We had a really exciting time investigating all sorts of mathematical conundrums, from trying to work out the patterns in the art work of American Sol Le Wit to  trying to create a range of 3D shapes with a single loop of rope. Along the way we also learnt some important messages about how we can be great mathematicians – thinking slowly and deeply, sharing ideas, experimenting and drawing things out. The whole class thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to applying all we have learnt in the rest of our maths learning this year.

Hindu Visitor

As part of our study of Hinduism in RE, Class 4 were very excited to receive a visit from Daxa Mehta, a Hindu who lives in Cheltenham. Daxa gave us a fascinating insight into her faith and brought it to life by sharing many artefacts. She was able to answer many of the questions that had already arisen from our studies and gave us plenty more to think about too. We also enjoyed an Indian dance workshop and managed to learn a complicated stick dance. We are really grateful for all Daxa’s time and knowledge- it made a very special day for us!
