Art Week

DSCF1229This half term we have hosted our art week at Hartpury Primary school. The children always look forward to this and have an amazing time. It is a great opportunity to build on existing artistic skills, try something new, make something amazing and develop friendships.

As a small school we have a great community ethos and this really comes to the fore during art week. The children are mixed together so that they get the opportunity to work with older and younger children. Our Year 6 buddies support their Reception peers to access all kinds of amazing opportunities and even the parents get involved.

This year our theme was inspired by Tim Peake’s visit into space. The children had the opportunity to use pastels and paints to create space themed pictures, batik and stop frame animation. Furthermore, the whole school got together to build and create a 5 ½ foot astronaut who now stands proudly in our entrance hall.

One of the highlights of art week for me, the children and the parents is our parent and child art evening. This has become a regular event at Hartpury School and one that is extremely popular. At Hartpury we are keen to involve parents in all that we do and the art evening is a great way of providing an opportunity for parents and children to come together to create something truly fantastic. The evening always starts with a hall crammed full of paints, pastels, materials, glue, glitter and all manner of other exciting art materials alongside a huge wall mural cut into sections. Eager parents work with their children to complete a section and then the next day the mural is put together to form the most amazing display. This year’s picture celebrates the famous bible story ‘Joseph and his Technicolour Dream Coat’ and looks stunning.

The children have produced the most wonderful art work and are already asking about when the next art week will be!
