Curriculum

At Hartpury the teachers put the children at the centre of curriculum development. Topics are established to incorporate the key elements of the National Curriculum but also to inspire and enthuse children. Children develop a wide range of skills as they explore the curriculum through various engaging topics: Pirates, Tudors, Eco-Warriors and Alien Invasion are just a few of the topics that have captured the children’s interest. We believe that children learn best when they are having fun; our staff provide a wide range of exciting learning opportunities. Our curriculum allows us to promote a mix of independence and collaborative work, which develops well-rounded children who are prepared for the next step in their educational journey.

A wide range of extra-curricular opportunities exist for children to explore and enjoy. Regular clubs include: choir, orchestra, sports, art, ICT, construction and more.

The outdoor environment plays a key role in our curriculum and children are encouraged to learn outside as much as possible. The school has a well-established ‘Forest Schools’ provision which promotes outdoor learning and opportunities for children to work collaboratively whilst exploring the outdoor environment.

At Hartpury we firmly believe that providing memorable experiences is how children learn best. Each class tries to incorporate a range of class visits regularly to give children tangible experiences which help them to scaffold their learning.

More information can be found about how the curriculum is organised by visiting our Curriculum Statement in the policies section of the website and also by looking at the long term planning available on the individual class pages. Parents can contact their child’s teacher directly.
